Wedding DJ Videos

Wedding at The Meadow Club Long Island NY
Behind the scenes: This Wedding is definitely in our top three when it comes to the most fun, as soon as DJ Cabo began playing music everyone went into party mode. We arrived to the venue at 9:00 a.m. (Wedding was set to begin at 4:00 p.m.) since there were a lot of details that needed to be in place in order for the night to flow as perfect as possible. From the Gobo displaying the initials with specific fonts as well as the the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor – the official emblem and insignia of the United States Marine Corps, to the coordination of the lights for matching the specific colors the Bride requested for certain events. We also wanted to run sound tests for the band.
Alice in Wonderland Themed Wedding
Behind the scenes: The night went by too quickly during this Wedding. The ceremony took place in the same room as the reception which made it a little easier for us as far as not having to set up a second sound system. The color red was emphasized as you can tell, but the the windows were opened on this sunny day, we worked around that by only lighting areas that the sun would not hit such as around the windows and some areas of the ceiling. Photographers love the natural light of the sun so we were not about to interfere by shutting the blinds. You can see our bubble machine at work during the first dance.
At one point during the evening DJ Cabo had the idea to blend in some old-school reggae, even though this was not on the list of musical request, according to DJ Cabo “it just felt right at the moment”. This turned out to be a success, we had the floor packed for approximately 30 minutes as DJ Cabo played hit after hit, pulling from his experience at Webster Hall. DJ Cabo also mixed traditional Wedding songs, Merengue, Bachata, Top 40′s and oldies during this successful evening.

We provided microphones and powered up the band, who was patched into our sound. We also provided music for the cocktail room which was across the hall. Note the Fireworks during the first dance, we were connected to the web at that time and streamed Macy’s July 4th fireworks. The venue manager was very cooperative and worked with us as well. We wanted to use fog for “Dancing in the Clouds” but the manager advised us against it because of the sprinklers. Since the ceilings were low and there were sprinklers everywhere we decided to take his advice and not risk it. Overall the evening went smooth with no hiccups. Even after the last dance was over we continued playing music for guests who were not done dancing, as we packed up the equipment.
Behind the scenes: This Wedding took place at the Coral House in Baldwin NY. The staff there is just amazing and we had a blast. The Ceremony took place outdoors and we set up a speaker with a sound card and lap-top behind the bushes and out of view from the guests. We knew the correct set-up after inquiring with the staff a few weeks prior during a private event we had there as well. As you can hear DJ Cabo saying on the video, it’s a great thing we always arrive ultra early to every event. We can write an article about all of the specific things that went wrong before the ceremony, but we’ll just say this, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. After 30 minutes and a lot of sweat on this heatwave Sunday, we recovered, but better yet, no-one noticed since we were up and running before the ceremony began. Just a note if you’re a new DJ and you’re reading this: always bring back-up equipment and arrive at least 2 hours early to your Wedding (Murphy’s Law can strike when you least expect it)
The ceremony went on without a hitch. The guests then moved over to the Reception room where DJ Cabo played Jazz, Oldies, Reggae and a few line dances. The room had windows which provided sunlight, therefore, not a lot of lighting was necessary. No amount of lighting can ever compete with the beauty of natural sunlight.
Behind the scenes: We had full reign at this venue as far as lighting decor was concerned. Some people will walk into this venue and see nothing but green walls and no windows, but we saw an opportunity to make one of our biggest transformations ever. There were approximately 30 guests at this Wedding, but the room was large, so we decided to cut off a fourth of the room, and focus lighting on the remaining three quarters. We divided the room into three sections, one for the dance area, the second for the tables and the remaining space was dedicated to the gazebo and photo area. We arrived extra early since we were also given the task of arranging the room to our liking. This was a Gothic wedding, to us that translates into simple yet elegant. The wedding colors were black and white, we used red lighting to match the red roses of the bouquets. Party lights and a disco ball were placed around the dance-floor area in order to give it a club-type feel (per the bridal party’s request).
The music was mixed as they requested Rock, Latin and oldies. We had a mixed crowd as well which can be challenging at first, but we discovered that everyone loved Merengue, this is how we were able to get everyone up moving and dancing with each-other, DJ Cabo also played 80′s, and, as you can see, a hit from Dirty Dancing.
Behind the scenes:The amount of lighting and effects we were able to provide for this Wedding was limited by the venue. The room was filled to capacity with guests and venue staff, in this situation tri-pods and light-stands can become a hazard and not to mention an eyesore in crowded areas. We take great care in discreetly hiding our equipment as much as possible. Our goal is for you to only notice the effects of the lights, not the actual lighting. After dozens of meetings with very creative brides-to-be we have learned a lot about equipment placement and decor, this is the main reason we avoid the huge truss lots of other DJ/Lighting Companies use for their lighting. These metal trusses usualy extend 7 feet up in the air and 10 feet across. To some DJs this looks fancy, so much so that a photo of these big trusses are placed on their advertisements, but most Brides disagree and this is why we avoid them.
The Bride and Groom were great to work with. DJ Cabo and Kieffer were actually interviewed by the Groom prior to working this Wedding. We then met the Bride a few days prior to the Wedding to speak about music selection. During this Wedding, DJ Cabo mixed Latin and Chinese music, Merengue Tipico, Bachata, classic Salsa and top 40′s.
Behind the scenes: For this venue we had a choice to make, either light the entire place, or place the focus in a specific area. We decided that since the tables were so close to the walls (as guests take their seats they sometimes cover the lighting giving the room an uneven look), and the dance-floor was approximately 10 feet away from the seating space, we wanted to make the dance-floor area the most attractive area in the room. By lighting up the dance floor, you bring attention to that area and it encourages otherwise unwilling guests to join in on the fun. The video shows the decorative lighting guests saw as they entered the room, disco-lights were later activated for the dance portion.
DJ Cabo mixed oldies and techno. We also provided sound for the cocktail hour in a separate room where we played top 80s hits (one of DJ Cabo’s specialties). During dinner we played soft jazz music, followed by top-40′s to get everyone up and dancing. We then took live requests for Rock music and finished the evening off playing pure techno.
Sweet 16 DJ Videos
Behind the scenes:This Sweet 16 went great, once everything was in place. It was a rocky start as the venue staff arrived late allowing us only an hour to set up (we had to pull a miracle as it usually takes us three hours to set-up). The venue manager had never seen such a big production take place, so he was nervous about us blowing a fuse or causing a black-out, but once he saw our equipment in action he was a Fan! The lights that we use are LEDs, which don’t consume a lot of electricity.
Up-lighting was placed around the room and the venue manager allowed us to control the house lights which was a great thing since our set-up space and time was limited, and we couldn’t place as many disco lights as we would have liked. During the candle lighting ceremony you can see an amber colored spot-light. We chose amber as white is too bright for the eyes. We were given the 16 songs required for the ceremony at the last minute, thankfully we had them all.
DJ Cabo had quite a bit of mixing to do and had a lot of fun doing it. This was another mixed crowd with requests ranging from 70′s hits, to old school Salsa, to current Hip-Hop. During the video you can see people dancing to R&B, Merengue, Old School Reggae and Hip-Hop. We loved these guests as they came there to dance and have fun!
Beach Sweet 16
Behind the scenes: The Princess Manor in Greenpoint NY is one of those venues that provides a little extra for it’s clients. We love the lighting set-up that they already have in place (although we would recommend LED lights as they are brighter, conserve energy and last approximately 50,000 hours). In the main room located on the first floor you can use their giant projector screen. For this private event we used the smaller of the two rooms located on the second level. The room itself was great to work on and the first thing we noticed was the mirrors. Mirrors make smaller rooms appear huge, while giving the room that magical feel when lighting is placed properly. We took full advantage of the mirrors and strategically placed our lighting to make it appear as if the room was a green paradise (our client loved green). Once the effect was accomplished and the guests had settled in, we added colors to the dance area while maintaining the rest of the room green. This attracts attention to our dance-floor and promotes dancing as guests become attracted to the lights.
DJ Ant played mostly Latin hits as well as Reggae, top 40′s and Hip-hop.
Behind the scenes: This was one of our most unusual set-ups. We had to convert this lounge into an intimate party area, for an 80′s-themed celebration. There were couches all over the space which the venue had no space hide, and the area was set-up almost like a diner/lounge. A few other challenges we had to overcome: The elevator was our of service so we had over 10 bins of heavy equipment (some over 40 lbs) to carry up (and down) the long stairs, the space turned into a nigh-club at 11:30 p.m. so we had to pack, load, and carry the equipment out surrounded by drunk club-goers in almost complete darkness, this alone took approximately 3 hours, something that would otherwise take us 45 minutes. We were told by the staff to begin packing at 11:00, but the party was in full swing at that time so we went against their advice and continued playing music and lights. Some other DJs we know would have been out the door at 11:30 sharp but we placed the client’s interest first in making sure the party went on until the end uninterrupted.
Uplights were placed around the tables in order to control the colors of the room, and we placed a projector screen displaying 80s videos throughout the evening, you can also see disco lighting. DJ Cabo mixed African 80′s music, West Indian music and 80′s top hits. The videos were streamed through a projector and the music from the videos was patched through the main speakers.
Behind the scenes: Lighting and sound set-up at this venue was a breeze. This was the smaller of the two rooms at the Crystal Room and we were up and running in approximately 1.5 hours. The challenge here was the very important photo montage with the music playing in the background for our client, he placed great emphasis on this so we had to be sure the slide-show would run uninterrupted. We brought two projectors and had a wide-screen monitor on-hand in case of emergency. The projector was placed on top of one of our lighted columns and we had a 30′ hdmi cable handy which reached the projector from the lap-top, it was a success. Blue up-lighting added an elegant touch to the room.
The dance-floor was small in size, something all DJs prefer as it encourages more people to join because of the appearance that the floor is always full. DJ Ant mixed Latin hits including Ecuador folk music, Cumbia hits, Salsa, Merengue. There was also a moment for top 40′s dance hits and we were able to fill all requests. Disco lighting was in effect but we were not able to use fog (fog enhances lighting). Everyone had a blast, including us!
Behind the scenes:For this venue, we focused the lighting on the side where the DJ booth was set up, as approximately 15 guests arrived from the expected 60 (this was a Sunday evening event). This is a situation where lighting can be used to your advantage, by darkening the area of the empty tables, you are able to give the room a cozier feel. With proper lighting, you can take the focus away from the empty areas. The room was large to begin with, having been made to house approximately 200, guests so we had a good idea about where to arrange the lighting from the time we arrived. We noticed that the dance-floor was large, but had we known there was going to be such a low turn-out, we would have decreased the size of the dance-floor by setting up the booth closer to the guests and cutting the dance-floor size in half. Overall it was a fun event with good music.
DJ Cabo mixed Salsa, Merengue, Reggaeton, Cumbia, top 40′s, 80′s music, and some Country hits. The challenge a DJ faces with mixed crowds is blending music that gets everyone on the dance-floor at the same time, this is where experience comes in. A rookie DJ plays for himself, while an experienced Disc Jockey knows that his job is to glue the guests to the dance-floor by digging deep into his music library. During this party we discovered that 80′s dance-hits (one of DJ Cabo’s specialties) was the common ground, where all guests joined in and danced the night away.
